City Women’s Annual Gala raises over £34,000 for MicroLoan

The stunning Langham Hotel in London was host to City Women Network’s annual gala dinner last Wednesday 25th September. As the Network’s 2013-14 charity partner, we were the beneficiary of this wonderful event, which brought together 200 senior businesswomen, colleagues and partners.

The evening saw some fantastic speakers take to the stage, including the Network’s Chairwoman, Brenda Trenowden, former Head of MI5, Baroness Eliza Manningham Buller DBE, and our very own long-standing supporter and volunteer, Lynne Turner. Lynne is herself an incredibly successful businesswoman, and the current Global Finance Director at Christie’s. Lynne spoke very passionately about why she supports MicroLoan. Having organised the Malawi Challenge for the past few years, on behalf of MicroLoan, Lynne spent some time talking about the trek and the impact it has on the participants, and encouraged members to sign up for 2014’s trek which will be run by MicroLoan.

With Lynne’s words in mind, the evening’s auction, in aid of MicroLoan, began, hosted by Christie’s very own Tom Best. The lots on offer were fantastic, and included a gorgeous pendant necklace courtesy of Boodles, private dining experiences donated by chef Valentina Harris and Masterchef winner Natalie Coleman and a box at the English National Opera, to name but a few. The excitement ran so high that at the end of the live auction Brenda proceeded to auction off an evening with the lovely Tom Best!

The evening was a huge success raising over £34,000 for MicroLoan Foundation. So all that remains is to say a huge thank you to all those at City Women Network who were involved in organising the event,  those who donated the incredible auction and raffle items for the evening, and all those who donated so generously on the night.

We look forward to seeing what the rest of the partnership with City Women Network brings!
