For all you paraskevidekatriaphobics* out there, Friday 13th August is likely to be a risky date for the birth of new relations. For Microloan however, last Friday was the launch date for an exciting new partnership with Lake of Stars, the International Malawi Music Festival, as part of our Pennies for Life campaign.
The festival, now figuring on the international music calendar, was first held back in 2004, when it won a prize from the Malawi Tourist Authority. With three key themes – Arts, Travel and Development – the festival not only showcases unique African talent, but also aims to raise money for charity and boost Malawi’s tourist industry as a whole.
In its 6 year history, Lake of Stars has totalled an estimated half a million pounds of spend, an important catalyst within the local economy. This year, as part of their local involvement and in line with our Pennies for Life campaign (see earlier posts), Lake of Stars has kindly agreed to donate 2 pounds for every ticket sold in the UK.
Check them out online at www.lakeofstars.org and get your groooove on.
