Walking in Marianne’s Footsteps 2017

Thank you to everyone that participated

On Sunday 18th June, our supporters braved the unusually hot weather to complete a 10 km walk in Richmond Park. This is the second year we have hosted our Walking in Marianne’s Footsteps event and it was fantastic to have such great support.

A massive thank you for all you have helped us raise so far! There is still time to donate to help us support even more women.

Lynne Turner, chair of our Women’s Development Board, met Marianne during a MicroLoan trip to Malawi and was motivated to organise this event in her name.

Marianne is a widow with 7 children living in rural Malawi. Before receiving a loan from MicroLoan Foundation, Marianne had to walk 10 km every day to sell firewood so she could feed her family. Now, Marianne’s life looks much brighter. With the support of MicroLoan Foundation, she has opened a tea shop in her village. This means she no longer has to travel those 10 kms to find work. Her tea shop provides her with the income she needs to feed her family and send her children to school.

There are hundreds more women like Marianne who have to travel long distances to earn money and buy daily necessities. The money raised from Walking in Marianne’s Footsteps will go towards changing these women’s futures.

We would like to thank everyone that helped make the day a success. From, Lynne and the event committee, Pam, Seun, and Julia, who put together such a fun event, to our marshals who did a great job at keeping everyone’s spirits high and making sure the day ran smoothly.

To all our participants, you were incredible. You brought a great energy and enthusiasm to the day and didn’t let the heat stop you. Your commitment and support will help some of the world’s poorest and most vulnerable women lift themselves, and their family, out of poverty.

We hope everyone enjoyed it just as much as we did!
